The leadership of Battleworn Legacy is not built from credentials. It is built from character tested under pressure, faith that governs action, and the kind of authority that is earned, not assigned. Every man in this leadership structure has been through the fire. Every man here has earned the right to stand in front of another man and call him higher.
No man stands in front of a Battleworn cohort who has not been through the fire himself. Every instructor carries the standard he holds the men to because he has already lived under it.
OWNER/FOUNDER
Owner & Founder
Trent McMurtrey could point to a lot of things the world might say define a man: serving in the Marine Corps and later as an Army Officer, building multiple six, seven, and eight-figure businesses from the ground up, earning an Executive MBA, a Master of Divinity, and degrees in Psychology and Biblical Studies, and retiring before the age of forty. But those things do not define him. In truth, they became less important when he finally surrendered to the One and Only true king – King Jesus. What saved his life was not success, status, education, or achievement. It was realizing that his identity was never meant to be built on what he had accomplished, but on who he belongs to.
Battleworn Legacy was not built because Trent had life figured out. It was built through failure, correction, surrender, and growth. He understands what it means to drift, to chase the wrong things, and to discover that even success can leave a man empty when his foundation is out of order. Today, his faith comes first, followed by his wife and children—the people he is most responsible to lead, love, and serve. Battleworn Legacy exists to help men stop building their identity on titles, money, performance, or past pain, and instead rebuild their lives on truth, discipline, purpose, and surrender to God.
Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer
Follower of Christ, devoted husband, and father to three sons. His identity is not found in titles, achievements, or past roles, but in Christ alone. Through seasons of success, failure, mistakes, and refinement, he has seen firsthand the steady grace of God restore, equip, and forge a manfor greater purpose.
A former law enforcement professional, he brings experience in tactical operations, lawenforcement training, and violent crime investigations, where he was shaped by the demands of high-pressure environments, leadership, and discipline.
He has carried that same field-tested mindset into business, where God has given him and his wife the opportunity to build and scale a multi-location fitness gym, develop strong teams, strengthen leadership culture, and add value in a way that reflects the character and attributes of God.
His heart is to serve military members, first responders, and their families by helping men confront comfort and walk in the identity God has given them. Through Christ-centered resiliency work and continued growth in biblical counseling, he seeks to equip men to lead with strength and humility, and encourage them to fight the everyday battle with unwavering faith, discipline, and conviction.
What each role carries
Every title in this leadership structure carries specific responsibility, to the mission, to the men, and to God. These are not roles of status. They are roles of stewardship.
The founder carries the original vision and is ultimately accountable to God, to the Advisory Board, and to every man who entrusts himself to this program. He does not manage from a distance he leads from the front.
Operations & Administration
No man stands in front of a Battleworn cohort who has not been through the fire himself. Every instructor carries the standard he holds the men to because he has already lived under it.
Men who have run toward the crisis, held the line, and carried the weight of service that never fully leaves. They understand what prolonged stress does to a man and how brotherhood is the only thing that sustains him.
Men who have shepherded congregations, walked men through crisis, and understand that discipleship is not a weekend, it is a lifetime. The theological weight behind this program is carried by men who have stood at the pulpit and at the graveside.
Men who have built companies, led teams, and understand the specific weight that comes with being responsible for the livelihood of others. They speak the language of the business owner and the executive because they have lived it.
The instructors of Battleworn Legacy hold verified credentials across leadership development, trauma response, physical training, and discipleship methodology. Every certification is field-tested, not shelf-displayed.
The vetting behind the men
Not every man who wants to be a Battleworn instructor becomes one. The selection process is rigorous, the standards are non-negotiable, and the accountability is permanent. Every man in this leadership structure has been held to the same standard he now holds others to.
This is not a volunteer program. It is a calling and it is treated as one. The men who lead the Convergence in Montana have been vetted theologically, evaluated personally, and approved by both the Lead Instructor and the Founder. Their character is the program’s first credential.
“He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)”
Full agreement with the Battleworn Legacy Statement of Faith reviewed and affirmed before appointment and annually thereafter. No exceptions.
A man who cannot lead his home has no standing to lead another man’s. Instructor candidates are evaluated on the health and order of their marriages and families, not as a performance standard, but as a character one.
The leadership of this program does not operate without oversight. The Advisory Board holds the Founder and every member of the leadership team accountable, permanently, not periodically.
